What's Up Wednesday #2

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly meme, started by Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk, geared to help readers and writers touch base and let them know what's up. If you want join in, you can find the link widget on Jaime's and Erin's blogs!

WHAT I'M READING
Last night I started the book Bloodfire by Helen Harper. It's the first in a series and I'm on chapter three. So far it's fairly interesting - she uses whilst a lot - but I like the main character and the plot has managed to capture my interest so I'm giving it a thumbs up for now. We'll just have to see how much I really like it when I finish it in, hopefully, the next few days.

Along with that, I continue to browse through various writing self-help books, but nothing specific at the moment. :)

WHAT I'M WRITING
Same old, same old! Well, not exactly. I had to re-write the beginning of Consequences in accordance to my storyboard, and now it's coming along much more smoothly. But I still can't wait for Ready. Set. Write! What's that you ask? Well, I would probably forget something in the explanation if I tried, so I'll direct  you to this blog post. I think it's just what I need to get this first draft done before I start college - and then I won't be worrying over it in the middle of my classes! (Hopefully)

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW
Still a lot of music, TV shows, and now my storyboard and quotes from Jodi Picoult novels. I don't think I've mentioned this before, but I absolutely adore her. Nineteen Minutes will forever be one of my favorite-favorite novels.

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO
I've been going to graduation parties for my friends, (lots of food!) and Monday was my official 'first day' at the ice cream place where I work - which meant I got tips plus my normal pay. And as of yesterday I really buckled down and started going through all my stuff for my party later this month. I hadn't realized how much my mom kept until yesterday. I also don't remember drawing that many pictures of her and my dad. D:

Also, looking forward to Ready. Set. Write! And other things like that. :)

So how have your weeks been? :)

  2. NINETEEN MINUTES is one of my all-time favourite reads. I've actually been meaning to reread it for some time now. I misread "ice cream place" as "ice cream palace" which sounded SO AMAZING! Haha! :D

    1. Hahah an ice cream palace WOULD be amazing! And I have been as well! The regular 12th grade english class at my school reads it every year, so since I took honors I missed out, but seeing the book everywhere reminded me of how much I love it. :)

  3. I've always wanted to work at an ice cream shop. I'd probably gain 50 pounds in a summer though. :-) I'm so glad you're joining us for Ready. Set. Write! I think we're going to have a very productive summer!

    1. I think so too! :) And I know, I don't let myself eat anything while I'm there. (x

  4. Whilst is one of those words that the more I say/read it, the weirder it gets.

    ^^;

Okay, how do you work in an ice cream place and not want to eat it all? Because I'd wanna eat it all forever :P

...And now I want ice cream...

    Have a great week!

    1. I agree, the more you read it, the weirder it gets. It just gets to the point where it kind of jars me out of the story because I'm thinking about how strange it sounds.

And a lot of self-control! It's definitely a challenge, and thanks - you too! :)

  5. Congratulations on graduating!

Man, I really need to give Jodi Picoult another shot--I was really frustrated by the ending of My Sister's Keeper, but I was totally loving the book up until the very last big thing that happened. And her other books do sound SO interesting...hmm. You may have helped to dissolve a YEARS-long grudge today :)

    1. Thank you! :)

And I hope I did! I completely understand where you're coming from, but Nineteen Minutes is completely different from My Sister's Keeper - I would definitely give it a shot if I were you. (The Pact is also another really, really good one of hers)

Thanks for visiting & come again soon! :)

  6. I've actually never read any Jodi Picoult! I need to fix this :)

Parties and ice cream--sounds like a super fun time! And I'm looking forward to Ready, Set, Write too. Hopefully we'll all make tons of progress :)

    1. Definitely! She's a big influence on my writing, her style and voice are so powerful. <3

I hope so too! And parties and ice cream are the best part of summer in my opinion. x) (besides all the extra sleep!)

  7. NINETEEN MINUTES is such a great novel. I found it so powerful I made my husband read it as soon as I was done, and his response was the same. It's been a while since I last read anything by Jodi Picoult, so I'll have to give a couple of her newer books a read sometime.

I'm so glad you're joining us for Ready. Set. Write! Have fun with your grad parties and gearing up for the summer writing challenge!

    1. I completely agree. It's one of those books that really makes you think, and then you just want to share it with everyone you know!

Thank you! I plan on having lots of fun - at my grad parties and with Ready. Set. Write!

  8. I haven't read any of Jody's books yet, but MY SISTER'S KEEPER and NINETEEN MINUTES have been on my TBR list for for-ever!

And oh, graduation parties...some of my best memories revolve around this time of year (and makes for some pretty great writing!) - enjoy it all and soak every moment in!

Congrats on your first day on the job - it sounds like the perfect summer position and hopefully brings in plenty o' tips!

  9. I'm so glad you'll be joining us for Ready. Set. WRITE! And yes - we are making our circuit to all the graduation parties of my husband's soccer players. Fun, but exhausting!
